Ericsson Achieves 100th 5G Commercial Contract

Ericsson announced that it had achieved 100th commercial 5G contract with unique communications service providers. The figure includes 58 publicly announced contracts and 56 live 5G networks, spanning in five continents.

The milestone was reached with 5G deal with Telekom Slovenije on 12th August. Ericsson has worked with major service provider partners. Ericsson’s first 5G partnership announcement came in 2014.

Initial technology engagements and MoU partnerships were followed by 5G New Radio (NR) technology testing and trials. The company’s first live commercial launches were announced in 2018.

Ericsson 5G deployments include:

  • 5G Non-Standalone
  • 5G Standalone
  • Ericsson Spectrum Sharing technology

Also, it includes cloud native capabilities with Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G Core.

Ericsson has deployed 5G in different bands in urban, suburban and rural environments to enable support for enhanced mobile broadband and fixed wireless access. In advanced 5G markets, communication service providers are also offering augmented reality and virtual reality services that are enabled by 5G, in education, entertainment and gaming.

Beside this Ericsson worked with service providers, universities, technology institutes, and industry partners to pursue 5G business and consumer use cases.

Some of the partnerships resulted in the deployment of 5G dedicated networks.
